Welcome to the online home of multi-instrumentalist/producer Jeff Peretz. Aside from being in-demand in the studio -- working with Grammy-award winners Mark Ronson and Rock Wilder or recording for artists as diverse as Jay-Z, Rev. Run or percussion master Zohar Fresco -- Jeff is also a dedicated educator and author. His books include Zen and the Art of Guitar (Alfred 2003), Guitar Atlas: The Middle East (Alfred 2004), and Guitar Atlas: Cuba (Alfred 2007). He is currently working on a text/reference book on music theory and arranging for producers and engineers.
Jeff is a faculty member of the Clive Davis Department of Recorded Music at New York University where he teaches music theory and advanced music theory to up-and-coming producers. He is also on the faculty of the Third Street Music School Settlement, the New School University, and the National Guitar Workshop.
Since 1998, Jeff has been the leader and principal composer for Abu Gara, an eclectic ensemble dedicated to the promotion of harmony and unity through musical expression. With its innovative blend of Middle Eastern rhythms and Western harmonies, Abu Gara is a collective that features many of NYC's most notable World Musicans. When not performing with Abu Gara, Jeff can be found on stage with the likes of Stanly Clarke, Simon "Bad Company" Kirke, Latin psychadelia-afro kings Yerba Buena, Jazz phenom Erik Alexander, and actor Tim Robbins.
On the production front, his most recent studio project is producing the follow up EP for The Middle Eight whose songs "Not I" and "Love - Pass It On" will premiere in the new Bart Freundlich film The Rebound starring Catherine Zeta-Jones next fall. Also look for (Jeff Peretz co-produced) debut of The Americans out this summer. Hear tracks from both of these records as well as others on the Production page.
