Since producing the debut album for the Jeff Peretz Group - Vitality of Expression - in 1993, Jeff has been involved in the studio with many different projects in several different capacities. A pioneer of the Hip-Hop / Jazz movement of the early 90s as the leader of Inner Urge, he has written and produced tracks for Dave Masucci, the Lyrical Juggler, and Ahmed "Jar-Jar" Best.
Jeff produces all of the records for his innovative Middle Eastern group Abu Gara, integrating a unique blend of traditional instruments and live percussion with samples and loops from all over the world. In fact his ability to effortlessly combine old world instruments played live and samples of Tibetan monks chanting, Pigmy water drumming, or Moroccan meditative dervish drumming to name a few, have come to make up Jeff's signature style. These techniques can be heard on several Jeff Peretz produced recordings such as Kingdom Queen, the acclaimed release from Yemenite-Israeli singer Bat-Sheva <www.batshevamusic.com>, Unwind by The Middle Eight and the much talked about self titled debut of Hysterics. Along with recording partner Steve Rossiter of Axis Sound, Jeff is constantly sought after to add his touch to all kinds of recordings. Together they are known for their command of traditional recording techniques and ideas as well as for their proficiency with modern digital recording. Jeff is also currently developing several young artists including Grace Kalambay <myspace.com/somegrace> whose song "Ordinary Sentiment" is featured in the Ed Burns film Purple Violets, Josef K <myspace.com/thejosefk>, The Tangents <myspace.com/thetangentsnyc> and Selma Ahmed <myspace.com/selmaahmed>. His most recent project have included producing the debut recording for The Amygdaloids <www.cns.nyu.edu/ledoux/amygdaloids>, the sound track to the short film A Driving Lesson for which he also composed all of the music, the theme song for the Yoga website downloadfacingdog.com as well as the music for several television commercials. Jeff also re-entered the studio with Hysterics to start their second record this time at the famed Headgear Studios <www.headgearrecording.com> in Williamsburg. Aside from his role behind the board, Jeff is still an available and active sideman recording with Mark Ronson, Jay-Z, Rock Wilder, and Andres Levine. |
